Burnett Lofts opens, and why it has that name
The grand opening of Burnett Lofts in North Oak Cliff, named for my great-grandfather, who owned the Dallas Eagles and the ballpark down the street.
On March 25, 2025, the Dallas Public Facility Corporation and Savoy Equity Partners held the grand opening for three new apartment buildings in North Oak Cliff: Burnett Lofts, The Cambridge and Ferguson Flats. Half of the apartments are reserved for residents earning 60% to 80% of the area median income. Dallas City Council Member Chad West and members of the public facility corporation’s board joined us at Burnett Lofts that morning. The details are in the press release.
The building we stood in front of is named for Dick Burnett, my great-grandfather. He was an oilman who owned the Dallas Eagles, and the ballpark that carried his name stood down the street on East Jefferson 75 years ago. The stadium came down in 1966. I like that the name is back in the neighborhood.
