What I'm working on now

A snapshot of where my attention is. This is a now page.

The second round of Opportunity Zones

The new Opportunity Zone map starts January 1. Texas nominated 608 census tracts in 106 counties, and Dallas County went from 18 zones to 60. The full list is on the Governor's Economic Development & Tourism page. They are nominations until Treasury certifies the map, probably in late November. Most of my time right now goes to cities and economic development groups working out what comes next. I talked with Bisnow about what the new map means for Dallas-Fort Worth.

Sabine at Paris

People are living at Sabine at Paris again, in buildings that sat empty for ten years. It opened on October 23, and the rest of the construction finishes in the next few months.

North Oak Cliff

Since 2020 the Savoy team has been building Bishop Ridge a few blocks at a time: renovating old buildings and building new ones next to them. The Parker, our sixth new building in the neighborhood, opened on October 15, and we expect temporary certificates of occupancy on all of its buildings shortly. We're also in pre-development on three more projects in the neighborhood.

AI at Savoy

Seth and I are rebuilding how Savoy runs around AI. About 20 of our leaders work with Claude every day. The rule hasn't changed: AI makes our people better at their jobs and stays away from residents and vendors. I talked through how it works on the AI for CRE Podcast, and again on The TreppWire Podcast.

Where I'll be

If you'll be there, say hello.
